In his article, "Syrian Refugees in the U.S. Feel a Backlash" (2016), Altman argues that “the Syrian people are not terrorists… [they] are against ISIS. [They] don’t support them. They (ISIS) are a criminal organization. Syrian citizens are the ones paying the price.” (1), and supports his claims with the use of the victim’s personal horrific story. Altman’s purpose in the article is to ensure that people know that Syrians are enduring much torture and fear, and are good, innocent people that simply need a place to stay. The emotional tone and story indicates this article is for people that do not know of the issue or are voting against letting refugees in, to persuade and provide knowledge about how refugees should indeed be allowed into the US because they are not affiliated with any wrong organizations.
